Instructions for scented candle making
It is enjoyable to light scented candles, to watch them glow and to have a taste of their wonderful fragrance especially when relaxing. Many candle lovers would want to be in a position to make scented candles but making the first step is a problem. This may be because they do not know how to make them or they have a wide range of scents to choose from and are therefore in a dilemma on which one to go for. There is definitely a wide range of varieties that you would love to try. With candle making, you should be in a position to manage.

Scented candles can be made of single fragrances or a combination of fragrances. You could get them from candle making supply stores in your locality. It is important that you acknowledge that candle wax will not combine with fragrances that are water or alcohol based.

When undertaking candle making, you can chose from the three types of wax. The types include gel wax, natural waxes and paraffin wax. Most candles are actually made of paraffin wax. Bees wax comes in its own fragrance which could work negatively with the fragrance you choose. Gel wax comes in low, medium and high density. It is advisable to go for the high density gel wax due to its excellent absorption of the fragrance oils.

With the wax and scents, you would need certain equipments. These include a thermometer which can measure up to 300 degrees F, metallic or plastic stirrer, wicks, molds or containers for the candle and a double boiler. Double boiler could be in the form of small tin set in a bigger pot which has boiling water. It would be important to have a chemical fire extinguisher just in case.

Place molds on old newspapers covering a level ground. Around the sticks, wind the wick centering them on molds rims. Melt the paraffin, palm or soy wax in double boiler, or gel wax in a container over the heat taking care that it does not ignite. Heat paraffin or natural wax to 180 degrees or gel wax to 220 degrees. Gel wax has a syrupy consistency when melted unlike paraffin /natural wax becomes watery. Take the pan from the heat and add the scent stirring to ensure uniformity all over the wax. Pour the melted wax carefully on the moulds while centering the wick. Unmold the candles after 6 hours when they have cooled off. You could still have them in the molds.
